Where Love Works: How Tikkun Olam Comes to Life in Milwaukee.
Let’s start with what Tikkun Olam is not.
It’s not screaming at our phones, computer screens, or TVs.
It’s not armchair quarterbacking the political noise around the world.
Nope. That’s just a quick dopamine hit—not real change.
Tikkun Olam is love—expressed through real acts of kindness to the people around us.
For the Jewish community, charity begins at home. But it doesn’t end there. Tikkun Olam calls us to take our values—charity, kindness, wisdom—and extend them to those who need us most in our own community.
For more than 40 years, Ike Center has been doing just that—providing job training, support, and a sense of purpose for adults with the most significant disabilities in Milwaukee.
Without Ike Center, many would have nowhere to go—and nothing meaningful to do with their days.
Take Joe, for example. Before coming to Ike Center, his days were spent at home—isolated and without structure. His elderly mother could no longer support him on her own, creating stress and uncertainty for their whole family.
Today, Joe is a valued part of the Ike Center community. He shows up each day with pride, contributes through meaningful work, earns a paycheck, and builds relationships that bring purpose, connection, and yes—love—into his life.
This is how Tikkun Olam comes to life in Milwaukee.
